The Rascals won their third straight game Tuesday night in O’Fallon, dropping the Frontier Greys 4-2 in the series opener. It was also the home opener at TR Hughes Ballpark, where over 1,700 fans were treated to a convincing win.
The Rascals put runs across in each of the first four innings. Eric Williams led off the bottom of the first with a walk (he drew three, now with 13 total in four games), and came around to score on an RBI single from Evan Crawford. The Greys bounced back in the top of the second when Brock McAllister launched a single to bring around Blake Burgeron from third.
From there on out though, it was nearly all Rascals. Bo Cuthbertson knocked in his first RBI of the season in the third, the River City piled on in the fourth when Eric Williams scored on a Greys error.
The lead stayed at 4-1 until the sixth when Mark Micowski put some life into Frontier when he punched a solo homerun over the left field wall, cutting the lead down to 4-2. River City pitching finished the job and kept it a two-run lead until the final out.
Casey Barnes made his second start of 2013, and tossed five innings and allowed just two runs on eight hits; displaying great situational awareness on the mound. Kyle Owings and Keli’I Zablan both threw an inning of relief, and new closer Gabe Shaw notched the save for River City, striking out one in the ninth.
The Rascals keep the six-game homestand rolling on Wednesday against the Greys at TR Hughes Ballpark. Fans can buy tickets by calling (636)-240-BATS, or by visiting www.RiverCityRascals.com
