Both rivers that border St. Charles County appear to be cresting. The Missouri River at St. Charles has fallen just a bit. At noon on Tuesday the Missouri at St. Charles was at 33.4 feet. That’s down from the crest which was on Sunday at 33.8 feet.
The Mississippi River in the West Alton area is measured at the Mel Price lock and dam at Alton. Yesterday (Monday) there was a crest of 34.38 feet. As of noon today (Tuesday) the Mississippi River has dropped slightly to 33.96 feet at lock and dam 26.
On Tuesday afternoon Rick Pender, the Rivers Pointe Fire Chief, confirmed a breach on the Mississippi River side of the levee system, very close to the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi. The breach is about 150 foot long. Rivers Pointe has completed notification of all residents in the area and asked them to evacuate. There are over 40 homes in the area east of Highway 67. It has been reported that water has traveled approximately two miles inside the levee in eastern St. Charles County.
